The eBUS SDK for JAI is a powerful new SDK for building vision systems that utilize JAI cameras. It is based on the eBUS SDK by Pleora and is specifically designed for use only with JAI cameras.

The eBUS SDK for JAI consists of an SDK (Software Development Kit) and a Player.

The eBUS Player is application software for directly accessing and controlling JAI cameras in a non-programmatic way. It can be used for testing and evaluation of JAI cameras with GigE Vision or USB3 Vision interfaces.

The SDK is packaged software that enables system developers to easily build programs for integrating JAI cameras into vision systems.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How do I get the new SDK?

  • It is available on the JAI web site (http://www.jai.com) under Support -> Download -> Software.
  • 2. Do I have to pay for the new SDK?

  • No.
  • 3. Will older cameras still work with the new SDK?

  • CMOS cameras with GigE Vision or USB3 Vision interfaces are supported. Please check the list above for supported models.
  • 4. I'm using the current JAI SDK for projects - do I have to switch to the new SDK?

  • Not unless you want to. The current SDK will be supported until the end of 2020 and will be available after that on a non-supported basis. If you have a mature project using the current SDK, you can continue to use the SDK through the support period and beyond if you wish. However it is recommended that any new projects use the new SDK.
  • 5. Will the current JAI SDK still be available after support ends in 2020?

  • Yes. It will be available for download and will continue to work on currently supported platforms.
  • 6. Why does the splash screen and documentation mention Pleora?

  • The new SDK is a branded, customized version of Pleora’s eBUS SDK specifically designed for use only with JAI cameras. It includes support for standard camera functions ,as well as many custom functions found in JAI cameras.
  • 7. Whom do I contact for support with the new SDK?

  • Please contact JAI support with any SDK-related questions.
  • 8. Will I have to pay for this support?

  • No.
  • 9. Will help be available in porting current SDK code to the new SDK?

  • The API is different between the current SDK and new SDK.  While porting services are not part of JAI’s standard support offering, there are API specification documents included with both SDKs to assist you in managing the process.
  • 10. Does the new SDK have function [X]?

  • Generally the two SDKs are comparable and let you do the same things with cameras and images. However there a couple of specific functions in the current JAI SDK that do not have equivalents in the new SDK.
  • 11. Will the new SDK only work with JAI cameras?

  • Full functionality is only provided for JAI cameras. Third-party cameras may still be recognized and controlled by the software, however a watermark will appear in the image area making it unsuitable for production applications.
