Sales Manager, Camera Solutions, Americas


JAI is a leading manufacturer of cameras used in vision applications and also a leading supplier of imaging sub-systems for traffic applications.  The company has R&D facilities, factories and sales offices in US, Japan, the UK, Germany and Denmark.

Business opportunities in JAI’s focus segments - industrial machine vision, homeland security & defense and intelligent transportation systems (ITS)- are on the increase.  In industrial machine vision JAI holds the industry’s largest installed base of high performance video cameras which are about to transition to digital products.  JAI is a leading provider of cameras to traffic applications such as open road tolling and speed control.  JAI also has long lasting partner relationship to key US defense system integrators.

To capture the growth of the Americas market, we are looking for a Sales Manager to join the sales effort for cameras sold out of our U.S. office located in San Jose, CA. This position reports to the Executive Vice President of Sales.

Main areas of responsibility are: 

  • Responsible for achieving designated sales quota
  • Key account management
  • Prepare and review project proposals including quotation

The position is an addition to the Americas sales department which comprises a strong team of direct key account/area sales managers, a channel manager, as well as a technical support department and sales administration.  This position requires a passionate individual who demonstrates initiative, takes ownership for project work, and exhibits a high level of personal leadership, conviction and spirit of innovation.

This unique role will be responsible for project concept and sales development. The ideal candidate will have both - experience in applications engineering and sales experience that is self-sufficient, organized, and detail oriented. Sales experience should include solution development and creative problem solving.  Solution-based sales experience is strongly preferred as this is a highly technical sales role.


  • 5+ years experience
  • Bachelors of Science degree or related industry experience
  • Sales experience - Strong technical and commercial selling skills with a blended and balanced interest in the products & technologies and achieving commercial success
  • Solid track record in machine vision and/or general imaging
  • Experience from either video cameras or complementary products, e.g., frame grabbers or machine vision software
  • Dynamic, energetic and self-propelled
  • Hands-on sales approach
  • Solid commitment to customer service
  • Highly-developed social intelligence and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Extensive and intimate knowledge of automated machine vision and automated manufacturing systems
  • Broad range of experience in a variety of industries and manufacturing environments
  • Knowledge and experience developing machine vision applications
  • Ability to visualize, create concepts, and clearly communicate solutions to a customer
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, questioning and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment on fast-track projects
  • Self-directed and forward thinking with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to represent JAI in a professional, ethical and socially responsible manner
